Note - John's phone has died. The blog is being continued using my phone but John is writing it. I may never get use of it again!
Hi there everyone, it's me again. After spending the last two days trying to resuscitate my phone I have given up. A blank screen is not conducive to continuing. All life support systems have been switched off, all photos lost and all news of Leeds United obliterated (there are some good points to ones phone being broken).
The dead phone
So now for the new blog.
Day 1 - Dresden to Meissen (35 miles)
Day 2 - Meissen to Kreinitz (31.7 miles)
After a good night's sleep and an excellent breakfast we set off at 10am. A final look around Meissen was in order as I bought a couple of postcards and wrote them next to the fountain in the Market Square.
We then crossed the Elbe to cycle on the right bank. As we looked back there was a splendid view of the Dom covered in scaffolding. After a few miles we stopped for the customary coffee and kuchen (rhubarb this time) and then continued to find the ferry across to Riesa.
No ferry
Although the centre of Riesa didn't sound too exciting we still decided to cross the Elbe by the road bridge and pay a visit to the famous 'Nudel Museum'. Surely it would be worth the 8km detour? In fact, this could be one cultural highlight that Derek is pleased to have missed out on. The ride through the industrial estate was less than inspiring but we eventually arrived outside a gleaming new extension to the factory. Apparently they produce pasta by the bucket load!
After looking into the museum entrance we decided to give it a miss and opted instead to eat lunch on the terrace.
Lasagna
The nudel (pasta) was like..... pasta, but Jenny did enjoy her giant shells stuffed with a vegetable mix and creamed salmon.
I enjoyed less the puncture that Jenny suffered immediately on leaving the factory.
Whilst the puncture proved a relatively simple task, the reconnecting of the Rohloff gears proved more difficult. So much so that Jenny had to finish the last 12km stuck in 10th gear. The long climb back into Riesa didn't improve the situation but we did eventually arrive at our Gasthof in Kreinitz.
If the beer or two, shower and evening meal raised our spirits, then watching Wales beat Belgium put the icing on the cake.

Sounds like an eventful day..
ReplyDeleteTry taking battery out of phone, then put it back, see if that works. Have you sorted Jens gears? If not, disconnect, se e if you can change gear with pliers, down to lowest, choose lowest on selector and reconnect. 🙏
